Vince Young's emotional rollercoaster

Titans fans should be a little worried about there young quarterback Vince Young.  Monday night, Young left his house at about 7 p.m. without any means of contact with him.  When a friend contacted Jeff Fisher, the head coach, about his concern for Young’s emotional well being, Fisher called the Nashville police to help find Young.  Fisher wanted to make sure that Young’s well-being and emotional state were in check seeing has how Young seemed down most of the day. Young was found to be at a friend’s house, and he was described as seeming emotionally down.  At about 11:30, Young was taken to the Titans practice facility where Jeff Fisher, the police, and Young exchange a few words. Young would later depart roughly 30 minutes later.  Don Aaron, a police spokesman, says that once they had a face to face talk with Young, they didn’t find anything to suggest that he was in an emotionally down state.  Aaron did say that Young had an unloaded firearm in the glove compartment, but it wasn’t load (this is legal as long as there is no ammo present).

A reason that Young could have been said to be in an emotionally down state, may be because he left the Titans-Jags game twice.  The first time he left the game, it looked like Young was trying to take himself out of the game, and trying to pass it off saying that it his hamstring was bothering him and the second time he left with a sprained left knee after going 12-22, 110 yards, one touchdown, two inceptions, and was booed off the field by the home town fans.  Young is expected to miss two to four weeks because of his knee injury and is expected to have an MRI on Tuesday.

After Young’s rookie season with the Titans, their were multiple reports that Young was pondering retirement because the game was no longer fun, his struggle with injuries, and the pressure of being a NFL quarterback may have got to him.  Thanks to his teammates, family, and friends Young is still playing to this day.  Hopefully they can pick him up from his most recent emotional rollercoaster ride and lead them to back-to-back playoff appearance.  But the main concern is will Young become a leader on and off the field for the Titans.  It seemed that he doesn’t have the desire to play the game anymore.  The Titans need to sit Young down and tell him that he is the future of his franchise or something to get him back into the correct mind set.  I want to see Young do well in the NFL and I think that the Titans fans and ownership hope the same.

  1. Tough one to figure out. His comments about retirement were puzzling because you never know when someone might follow throw like a Ricky Williams or a Culpepper or a Barry Sanders, etc.
